These photos are of the CODOG machinery, rated at 19MW @ 3600 RPM (GT) and 3.8 MW @ 1450 RPM (diesel), inside the German Frigates F122. The SSS Gas Turbine Clutches are arranged between the epicyclic gear (first stage) and the output stage. This way, the GT will not be turned by drag when the clutch is overrunning and the high speed elements of the first stage gear are disconnected, and at maneuvering and cruising, only the diesel part of the gear unit is operating. In turn, the diesel SSS Clutch disconnects the diesel drive when the GT is operating. And because the clutches arranged in the high speed shafting are equipped with either a manual or automatic lockout device, the GT can be tested in the harbor, completely disconnected from the propeller.
