Huntorf, Germany

The Huntorf plant, located in North Germany, was commissioned in 1978 as the world's first CAES plant. This plant has recently been reengineered to boost power by approximately 7% to 320 MW. An SSS Clutch helps the plant perform its duties as minute reserve, peak shaving in evening hours, and compensation for fluctuations in wind power generation plants. The SSS clutch in this plant is the largest in the world, capable of transmitting 320 MW, and currently has over 3,600 starts with no clutch damage or maintenance required.
